It’s a common question for many to wonder if you should try to
make your own ghillie suit. In some survival situations, you may find you don’t
have the option of buying a suit from the store so knowing how to make your own
is certainly a good skill to have. Making your own homemade ghillie suit is not
as easy as it may sound however. If you are making a suit from scratch, you will
need materials from the environment to put together to create the camouflage and
you will also need something to attach them to such as your own clothing or
jacket, backpack and other materials. With nothing to hold the sticks and leaves
on together, you will not be able to take cover below a ghillie suit. If you
have any type of netting material on you, this can also be used to attach
camouflage to and wrap around you as a suit. If you are not in an emergency or
survival situation, you will have more opportunity to get the materials that you
need as well as more time and ideal conditions for creating the homemade ghillie
suit. You can also buy pre-made suit kits that make it even easier. What will
you be using the suit for? What type of materials do you have available to work
with? How long will you need to keep the suit on? What experience do I have with
making ghillie suits or related camo materials? Why do you want to make your own
suit (for fun, a challenge, because you have no access to buying one)? Once you
have the answers to these questions, you will know if you should try to make
your own homemade ghillie suit. There are many available ghillie suit kits now
that allow you to easily make your own suit for use before hunting, playing
paintball or other chosen activities. If you are in a survival situation or war,
you will not have this luxury and you will have to use your past training and
knowledge to create the suit on your own as best you can. You can use sticks and
twigs and you can use grass and leaves to make string-like material. Most types
of mud can be used as glue to hold the leaves and twigs together and to hold the
camo onto your suit or clothing.
